Great blog! We would like to bring to your attention an event we are hosting....

The Evangelical Alliance, specifically Krish Kandiah, is hosting an informal lunch event for Christian bloggers to network with one another and think through a Christ-like approach to blogging. Please find an invitation attached.

The event will begin at 11am and run through until 2.30pm. There will be a £5 charge for the event, which will cover lunch and resources.

We would be extremely grateful if you could let us know whether you are available to attend by Tuesday 16 September.

We're increasingly hearing about certain events being suitable 'looking in' opportunities for those from outside - and Brighton must surely be number one among those! Which makes it vitally important, like you say, that there is an element of weighting.

It could be argued that, having had Rob Rufus and Wayne Grudem on the same platform in 2006, that the 2007 conference, which gave a lot of profile (I believe rightly) to Rob Rufus, was comparatively one of the least 'weighted' so far - and look how glorious that time turned out to be! I came away feeling strongly impacted by the Word as well as Spirit, despite the wonderful emphasis on the Spirit.

I have to say however, although I see the need for some kind of weighting, the thought that somehow someone will forget (or deliberately omit) to bring that weighting hasn't crossed my mind. I am (rightly or wrongly) fully confident that our biggest 'shop window' as a movement will more than adequately represent everything we believe! The thought that it won't wouldn't reflect the heart of it's leaders.

That's the wisest and most perceptive comment I have read about the whole Driscoll visit as yet. And I mean that. I don't think I have ever really thought that objectively about the guest speakers that are invited and the contribution they bring and what you said really makes sense. But surely then the responsibility is back on the Newfrontiers team to ensure that the conference is weighted appropriately and that all who attend go away encouraged in the Newfrontiers vision. After all - no Stoneleigh so Brighton is the main forum for imparting that vision.

Hey Luke, I agree with above, don't give up! The world needs Word/Spirit, genuine charismatic bloggers! But I totally emphasise with your dilemma with changing work/home situations and how you fit blogging into it.

I wonder if we should start to see blogging as something we do - blogging - rather than someone we are - bloggers. That way blogging then becomes a format for sharing what's going on in your life and relationship and walk with God rather than become a burden to hang around your neck - and feel guilty you haven't blogged for a while.

Whatever you decide, it's been great to meet you and find so much in common with our passions and vision. Even better to meet you at Brighton! And I'll continue to be so interested in what's going on in your life and church whether you blog or not!!

You can do it! Set aside a couple of hours to really think an issue through and write say 5000 words on it. Then break that down into 10 500 word chunks and you have over a weeks worth of blogging. We love your stuff. Tell us also more about what is going on down there! I have missed your work.

Luke - I've been on this one a bit recently cos I'm trying to pull together a course/book on money & possessions.... and I'm preaching 2 Cor 8 at the end of October: subverting the charismatic debate. Gotta be grace overflowing in giving - Terry's chapter in God's Lavish Grace is very helpful... As for the loan, yup don't tithe anyway, and i just suggest letting grace overflow in the way you're living - you're spending on food, grace might overflow to let you cook generously... or go without.. etc. But basic 'rule' has gotta be grace, grace, grace, grace, grace, grace, grace...

Is it God or is it the commercial? You stated that you 'put the need before the church' which usually means that you told the membership what was needed. Generous people responded. Next time the church needs something, consider NOT telling them but only praying to God. I submit that truly 'waiting on the Lord' does not include telling others what you think is needed in this case.

By the way, you can put me down as one of those who do not believe that any form of 'tithing' is required. Generosity to the poor is certainly necessary for Christians but clearly that kind of giving is totally different from attempts to 'tithe'.

The LINKS page at www.nomoretithing.org lists about 24 books and 36 other web sites that all teach that believers are not required to tithe.

The point of journalism is to scrutinise!

Plus, you clearly don't know what libel is, so don't talk about it as if you do. For a start The Steel Press didn't libel the union at all. All the info in the report about the union food was from a Freedom of Information Request. It's not libel if it's true. The union blackmailed them into retracting the article by saying they would close the Steel Press down if they didn't.

And secondly, you can't libel an organisation, you can only libel and individual.

Do you even know what journalism is??
